Itinerary
Your adventure begins in Kathmandu, the captivating capital of Nepal. This vibrant metropolis nestles right in the Himalayas, making it one of the world's most distinctive places. Known as the "city of temples," Kathmandu is dotted with pagodas, shrines, and monasteries where people of Hindu, Buddhist, Sikh, and other faiths gather to practice their beliefs.
As your plane touches down at Tribhuvan International Airport, you'll get your first glimpse of this enchanting city. A friendly representative from IME Travels will be there to greet you and take you on a brief drive to your hotel. There, you'll meet your trekking guide and learn more about the Annapurna Base Camp Trek before settling in for the night.
Pokhara serves as the gateway to the Annapurna Base Camp trek. You'll journey from Kathmandu to Pokhara, where you'll be treated to breathtaking aerial vistas of the surrounding mountains. Be sure to have all the essential documents on hand, such as your passport, TIMS card, and travel insurance.
After landing in Pokhara, we will rest for a while before beginning our trek to Ghandruk which will take about 6 hours.
Today, you embark on a trekking journey along the banks of the Modi River. You ascend for a while, then leave the river behind and climb towards the towering boulders. After passing through the boulders, you cross a bridge over the Kimrong River and follow a steep trail that leads you to Chhomrong. Before reaching Chhomrong, you visit the place called Jhinu Danda. From Chhomrong, you descend to cross the Chhomrong River. Afterward, you hike up Sinuwa, taking in the picturesque views of the bamboo, rhododendron, and oak forests. The day concludes with an overnight stay at a mountain lodge.
Starting from Chhomrong, you continue your trek by ascending to Kuldi. From there, you enter the upper Modi valley. You then descend a lengthy, steep staircase made of stone to reach Bamboo. Afterwards, you climb continuously through stands of bamboo and rhododendron forests until you arrive at Dobhan.
Departing Dobhan, you cross a stream and a landslide. In the forest, you discover a small temple dedicated to the local deity Baraha, where the villagers leave offerings of flowers and clothes. Climbing past a cascade over a rock platform, you then reach another temple of Shiva before arriving at two lodges in a deep gorge, both known as the Himalaya Hotel. The journey continues on a rocky trail through forests and up a steep ravine to Hinku Cave. From there, the trail crosses the remnants of a glacier and climbs through large boulders to Deurali, where you can spend the night at a mountain lodge.
After passing Deurali, the valley broadens and becomes less steep, allowing you to catch a glimpse of the sanctuary gates as the mountains loom overhead. You then follow a path that veers eastward, taking you through a unique combination of bamboo and birch vegetation before reaching Bagar. From there, you continue your ascent, crossing more avalanche-prone areas and navigating a sparse birch forest. Crossing a moraine, you descend to a stream, and then climb a stone staircase to reach Machhapuchhre Base Camp.
From Machhapuchhre Base Camp, the trail follows a stream and then climbs up to some shepherd huts where they graze their sheep during the summer months. Soon, you'll see the hotels of the base camp, and shortly after, you'll reach Annapurna Base Camp. This base camp is nestled amidst the mountains, earning it the name Annapurna Sanctuary. From here, you'll be treated to stunning 360-degree views of the Annapurna Himalayan range. For a prime viewpoint, head west, marked by prayer flags, to witness the spectacular glacier. You can also climb the southern slopes behind the mountain lodges for a beautiful valley overview. Spend the night at a cozy mountain lodge.
You start your day early, admiring the breathtaking sunrise over the Annapurna range and its surrounding peaks. After a hearty breakfast, you retrace your steps towards Bamboo, passing through familiar landmarks like Machhapuchhre Base Camp, Hinko, Himalaya Hotel, and Dobhan. Although the trek takes approximately 6 hours, the downhill journey makes it a relatively easy and enjoyable experience. You'll spend the night at a cozy mountain lodge.
The trek begins with an uphill hike from Bamboo to Kuldighar, followed by a downhill walk to Chhomrong Khola. Next, you'll ascend the stone steps to reach Chhomrong. The trail then descends to Jhinu Danda, where you can enjoy a relaxing soak in the nearby hot springs, just a 15-20 minute downhill walk away. You'll spend the night at a cozy mountain lodge.
From Jhinu Danda, take a pleasant stroll along the right side of the Modi Khola river, leading you to the picturesque town of Birethanti. This section of the Annapurna Base Camp trek is considered one of the most serene and relaxing. Continuing your journey, move on to Nayapul. After a short one-hour drive from Nayapul, you'll arrive at the vibrant city of Pokhara. Spend the evening relaxing at your hotel and strolling through the lively lakeside street market. Best Time for ABC Trek
Trekking in Nepal is largely influenced by the summer monsoon, which typically lasts from June to August. As a result, most visitors prefer to hike during the spring or autumn months, when temperatures are comfortable and mountain views are clear.
However, you can embark on a trekking adventure in the Annapurnas at any time of year. The snow-covered trails of winter can be just as captivating and atmospheric as the mist-shrouded landscapes of summer.
Regardless of when you choose to travel, IME Travels will curate a trekking experience that exceeds your highest expectations.
